Woke up and glad I opted to sleep indoors, it rained hard early this morning and some riders are bring their tents into the barn to fold them up and put them away.
On the road again, it is Mike, Dan and I. Some light rolling hills and the farms are a bit smaller, with lots of cornfields. The winds are still strong out of the south, so we get mostly crosswinds, with a some swirling headwinds now and then.
My back is tending to knot up, and I find that if I get off the bike every 12 - 15 miles and stretch and walk around it helps a lot. Going through Rochester, a bike shop owner opens just for us, normally he is closed on Mondays. I stop in as I need a new front wheel, Gene in New Ulm was able to straighten it, but recommended getting it replaced as it could fail due tot the extreme tension he put on the spokes to get it straight. Unfortunately he was not able to help me, but I know he helped some other riders.
Ane and Liz's family do an extra water stop. There is pie, fruit, melon, a bikers heaven! What great and warm people we meet on this trip.
As we get closer to Winona the terrain shifts, we get some very sharp descents and actual forested hills and cliffs. Very pretty, I take it easy, concerned about my front wheel, dang, it could have been fun going fast on those descents.
Tonight we stay at the Winona State University for one night. A rarity. Fresh linens and towels. O boy!
The cue sheets show a cumulative total of 1,999 miles, I have passed that, man, 2,000 miles in 29 days, pretty cool!
